ACTION 157: Secrecy is Their Key Move
We've been writing to you a lot on the AHCA (Trumpcare), but our window for prevention is closing. Very little is known about the Senate healthcare bill that is being sent to the Congressional Budget office (CBO) for analysis this week. As Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) put it, "we have no idea what’s being proposed. There’s a group of guys in a back room somewhere that are making these decisions."
And Senate Republicans hope to keep it that way through most of the process, pushing the bill through with 50 votes and VP Pence stepping in. The bill was written by an all-male cast of 13 senators, some of whom are strongly anti-abortion, and anti-choice.
This is not representative democracy, in the least. Only 20% of Americans say they support the House version of the bill. So why are Republican senators acting as if they have a mandate to repeal healthcare?
Because all they want is a political "win." In a legislative year that has thus far yielded very little for the GOP agenda, they will do anything to get it. Their "win" is America's loss.
What you can do1. CALL, TWEET, AND FACEBOOK these targeted Senators to make sure they protect our care.
2. FORWARD to any friends and family living in states who benefit from Medicaid expansion. They need to call their senators stat!
