Local Tuesdays: Florida

If you haven’t heard already, there’s a campaign in Florida to restore voting rights for the 1.5 million people who are excluded because of a prior conviction. These are our family members, friends and neighbors who have already paid their debt to society. Americans believe in second chances, and now we have the opportunity to be a part of history, and join a grassroots movement to make sure Florida law does too.

In addition to affecting millions of people, families and communities, this project - completely grassroots and led by the people directly impacted - may lead the way for a new way of creating laws by the people, for the people.

What you can do

TAKE ACTION

1. Join a phone call to learn more. August 1-4, our friends at Women's March will hold a series of phone calls to introduce you to the movement, the campaign, and help you get involved. Calls feature Florida Rights Restoration Coalition President Desmond Meade and Women’s March co-chairs Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez, among others. The first call starts at 7pm est tonight!

2. Attend a Petition Party. August 5, the campaign kicks with statewide petition parties. Attend one or host one - they have resources to help you.

3. Visit the campaign website to see how you can get involved. This is an ongoing campaign with plenty of opportunities to plug in.

4. NOT IN FLORIDA? Watch this video from Samantha Bee on ways you can get involved too! Then share with your friends & family in Florida!
